GENERAL X-RAY SERVICE OF THE UPV/EHU: MOLECULES AND MATERIAL UNIT

Introduction

The General X-ray Service of the University of the Basque Country/EHU aims to support basic and applied research, among others, to the different areas of knowledge of Geological Sciences, Chemistry, Physics, Materials Sciences, Aeronautics, Pharmacy, Biochemistry, Archaeology, Paleontology, Anthropology, Environmental Sciences. In addition to contributing to providing services in the fields of Construction, Mining Prospecting, Civil Engineering, etc. It can also be accessed by researchers from the Basque Science and Technology Network, other researchers outside the UPV/EHU, and other Public and Private Institutions, throughout the national and international sphere.

Equipment

The Service has a state-of-the-art instrumentation that is continually updated.

Fields of application

The services of this unit cover all aspects of the study of a crystal structure from single crystal diffraction data: the selection and assembly of the single crystal, previous symmetry studies, collection of diffraction data, structural resolution and analysis of the results.

The available equipment also makes it possible to undertake structural studies based on diffraction data of polycrystalline materials. This technique allows the crystalline phases present in the sample to be identified without destroying it, allowing the material to be recovered without any deterioration.

Access rules

General rules

To access the X-ray Unit: Molecules and Materials, in addition to the specific requirements of the Service, the requirements established in the Protocol for access to the SGIker and use of the available services must also be met.

Specific access rules

This protocol establishes the specific conditions of access to the X-ray Diffraction Service, by internal users (UPV/EHU) and external users (other universities, OPIS, technology centers, companies, etc.).

Application

The request for a service is made through the IKERKUDE application, which will help you maintain the traceability of all the work you carry out in the SGIker. When requesting a service, the user knows and accepts the access protocol and the rate that will be applied for the services provided.

Location

The X-ray Diffraction Service (Molecules and Materials Unit) has equipment located in two locations within the Bizkaia Campus:

  • University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU
    • Faculty of Science and Technology, Bizkaia Campus
    • CD3 Building
