Pedro Luis Arias and Alexander Lopez-Urionabarrenechea are in the group of 2% of the researchers most cited in scientific publications, according to the Stanford University ranking.

There are 151 researchers from the University of the Basque Country in the group of 2% of those most cited in scientific publications: 99 in the senior list (which corresponds to the mentions the researcher receives in his professional career), 126 in the last year list (in this case the mentions for 2021) and 74 in both lists. This is recorded in the latest Stanford University Ranking of the World Scientists: World's Top 2% Scientists. According to this, the Basque public university is the second most influential in this ranking, after the University of Barcelona.
