Brief description: The Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) and the Traditional Speciality Guaranteed (TSG) are the three different types of quality regulated by the European Union. In the Euroregion there are currently 100 DOPs and 67 IGPs. The development and application of tools that allow the definition of the origin of a food, making possible the identification of frauds, supposes an added value for any product awarded with one or another modality of differentiated quality. The project "Cross-border network for the protection of the authenticity of the Euroregion's quality marks" aims to protect the authenticity and reinforce the image of quality and rootedness with the territory of different PDO and PGI products of the Euroregion. The project aims first to create and then to strengthen a cross-border network with the participation of very varied actors in order to identify common challenges in terms of adding value to distinguished products with some form of differentiated quality through the application of tools that make it possible to ensure the origin of a given product, thus minimizing the effects caused by the presence of fraud in the market. To this end, the aim is to optimize a method based on the combination of elemental analysis with stable isotope analysis. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the method, the case study of Piquillo Peppers from Lodosa will be used. The possibility of applying this technique in the case of wines from Jurançon, Bizkaiko txakolina and DOP Navarra will also be explored.
