Dr. Artzai Picon M.Eng.Industrial Engineering (2002), M.Res. (2005) MSc. Biomedical Engineering (2012) and Europeean PhD (2009) is a part time lecturer at UPV/EHU and principal researcher at Tecnalia where he serves as Principal Researcher at Computer Vision group. His research interests are focused on deep learning and probabilistic techniques focusing on domain translation, fine grain, hybrid evidence based, reliability assurance and robustness of these models. In 2002 he received the Best M.Eng. Final Project Award for the implementation of a facial recognition system and in 2006 he received the ONCE International Research and Development Award in New Technologies for The Blind and Visually Impaired. In 2011, the industrial application of his thesis developments received the 3rd EARTO’s award on innovation. In 2011 he joins Tecnalia Research & Innovation and focus on the extraction of imaging biomarkers including chemical and functional quantification of images. In 2014, he receives the 1st EARTO's Award on Innovation for the development for a histopathology image retrieval system for biopsies among biobanks. He served as coordinator of EU Photonics PICCOLO project that develops an advanced Multiphoton and OCT colonoscope where he technically leads the deep learning model developments that assure seamless domain translation capabilities to bring knowledge from already stablished medical imaging domains into novel imaging domains that lack of extensive datasets.
