Short biography

Shen Sesselle is a PhD researcher at Ghent University in the Supramolecular Chemistry Group, led by Prof. Richard Hoogenboom, within the Department of Organic and Polymer Chemistry. He obtained his master’s degree in (Bio)Organic and Polymer Chemistry in September 2023. After which in Octobre he has been pursuing his PhD through a collaborative project with Prof. Stefaan De Neve at the Soil Fertility and Nutrient Management group, Department of Environment, Faculty of Bioscience Engineering*.

His research aims to bring a chemical perspective to microplastic research, particularly in soil environments. He focuses on the chemical design and synthesis of labelled microplastic materials, incorporating fluorescent, metallic, and isotopic labels to facilitate particle tracking in situ and investigate microplastic biodegradation in soil.
