Biography
Gaybrielle A Smith is a current doctoral student and researcher at the University of The Basque Country (EHU) as part of the Cellular Biology in Environmental Toxicology+ One Health consolidated research group as well as the University of Bordeaux (UB) in the Oceanic and Continental Environments and Paleoenvironments working group. She studies the effect of novel partially biobased nanoplastics on aquatic organisms through in vitro techniques in mussel hemocytes and fish cell lines and toxicity assays in zebrafish adults and larvae. She obtained her joint master’s degree in Marine and Environmental Resources from the EHU, UB, and University of Liége. She has participated in several projects including the collaborative research project "Evaluating the impacts of Ocean acidification on Seafood- A Global Approach" (2021-2023 ref: CRP41018) and more recently the ENSURE2 (“ENvironmental Safety of polyUrethanes from REnewable sources and from REcycled plastics: hazard assessment based on a battery of alternative methods”; 2022-2025 ref: TED2021- 131147B-I00”) , FIERA (“Fate and Impact of Environmentally ReAlistic nanoplastics and of novel bioplastics in the aquatic environment”; 2022-2025 ref: PID2021-128600OB-I00) and Laboratory for Transborder Collaboration (LTC) AquEus funded by Euskampus and the Basque Government.
