Descripción y Contextualización de la AsignaturaAlternar navegación

The study of the international economy and its institutions during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Especially, it seeks to approach the roots of economic growth and inequality in the World Economy, to analyse the rise of the modern enterprise and its historical evolution to nowadays and, finally, to attempt to put economic globalisation in historical context.

1. To understand and identify basic economic and historical concepts and processes: The Great Divergence, the Industrial Revolution, Economic Growth, Economic Backwardness, Globalisation, Development and Underdevelopment.

2. To get a basic idea of the evolution of the world economy in the long run understanding the multi-causal and systemic character of the economic phenomena

3. To develop capacity to analyse and understand historical sources as well as the basic statistical and graphic tools common in Economic History

4. To deepen the knowledge of the contemporary world and its challenges*

5. To do research using different sources

6. To improve cooperative team working abilities

7. To develop listening and speaking skills

There is no distinction between seminar and practice hours. The final schedule for practice lectures will be available at the beginning of the term.

A) CONTINUOUS EVALUATION

• Final Exam: 60% (6 points). A minimum of 5 points over 10 is required in the final exam to validate the scores obtained through practices.

• Practices in class, tests in class, online tests and/or short essays due in class (40%).

• Optional: an extra point (maximum) at instructor’s discretion, based on class participation and/or group work and other exercises in class.



B) STUDENTS THAT WAIVE THE CONTINUOUS EVALUATION

• 100% exam comprising some questions about the theoretical and practical contents of the subject.

The student must submit a written application to the professor within the first nine weeks of the semester.



C) STUDENTS IN SPECIAL SITUATION EXCEMPTED FROM PRACTICES

• 100% exam comprising some questions about the theoretical and practical contents of the subject.

The student must submit a written application that proves his/her situation.



D) OTHER YEAR’S STUDENTS

• Two options: Grading Model A or Grading Model B/C.



If needed, students will be informed about the assessment criteria for the final exam at the professor’s tutorial sessions.



Students must be aware and follow the protocol for both academic ethics and prevention of dishonest or fraudulent practices when taking assessment tests and writing academic essays at the UPV/EHU.

Students will have two options:

• To sum the points obtained in practices during the term (only kept for this year). In this case, the final mark will be calculated as follows: final exam (60%) + practices (40%).

• 100% exam comprising some questions about the theoretical and practical contents of the subject.
