B.S. (1981) and PhD (1986) in Biology at the UPV/EHU. Postdoctoral research at the universities of Tufts (1986-90), and Harvard (1991-94), in the field of genetic regulation of cell proliferation and cancer. In 1995 she joined the UPV/EHU as a Faculty member. Currently, Full Professor of Genetics.

Member of the Coordination and Evaluation team of the Spanish National Agency of Evaluation and Prospective (2005-08 and 2015-18). Elected member of the UPV/EHU Research, Postgraduate, Ethics and Animal Welfare Committees. Coordinator of the Doctoral Degree Program “Advances in Molecular Genetics” (2005-10). Coordinator of the Interuniversity Masters Degree Program “Molecular Biology and Biomedicine” (2008-14). Principal Investigator of the UIRMI University Institute.

Principal investigator of the Molecular Biology of Cancer research team (A group in the Basque university system) since 2001, having directed over 20 competitive research projects. Her research interests lie in the area of genetic regulation of the cell cycle and its implication in cancer and other pathologies. Published over 70 contributions in high-impact journals, having received over 4500 citations. Has supervised 17 doctoral thesis. Has delivered numerous research and outreach seminars. Invited guest of the journal Genes. Has 5 research periods awarded.

Appointed member of JAKIUNDE, and Cadena Ser-Bilbao Award to Excellence in Research (2018).
