This course aims to guarantee the basic metalinguistic knowledge that English teachers need in their working practice.

Based on this knowledge, we aim for students to get to know several linguistic resources (grammars, dictionaries, etc.) and to be instructed in their use.

The main aims of the subject are:

- to get to know the linguistic structures and lexical aspects of English corresponding to the C1 level in the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for Languages, making an appropriate, coherent and correct use of them

- to get to understand some basic phonetic-phonological aspects of the language (phonological system, rhythm, stress and intonation...)

1.- MORPHOSYNTAX

- Elements of grammar

- Verbs and the verb phrase.

- Nouns and the noun phrase.

- Adjectives and adverbs.

- Prepositions and the prepositional phrase.

- Word formation.

- The simple sentence.

- The complex sentence (coordination and subordination).

- Sentence connection

2.- PHONETICS AND PHONOLOGY

- Introduction to phonetics and phonology.

- Sounds in isolation (vowels and consonants).

- Words in isolation (allophones, stress...).

- Connected speech (simplifications, weak and strong forms, stress and rhythm...)

Theoretical content will be combined with practical exercises.

Individual and group work will be carried out.

To pass the subject, students must get a pass in both parts in which it is divided, namely:

- Phonology

- Morphosyntax



Besides, they will have to pass a language test (written test and oral interview) at the end of the term to ensure they have the English level required (C1).



Apart from the tasks done during the term, ATTENDANTS will take a final exam (or partial ones) which will be worth at least %50 of the final mark.



NON-ATTENDANTS

"Ikasleek eskubidea izango dute azken ebaluazio bidez ebaluatuak izateko, etengabeko ebaluazioan parte hartu zein ez hartu. Eskubide hori baliatzeko, ikasleak etengabeko ebaluazioari uko egiten diola jasotzen duen idatzi bat aurkeztu beharko dio irakasgaiaren ardura duen irakasleari eta, horretarako, 18 asteko epea izango du urteko irakasgaien kasuan, ikastegiko eskola egutegian zehaztutakoarekin bat ikasturtea hasten denetik kontatzen hasita."



Similarly to attendants, NON-ATTENDANTS will be assessed through the following:

1.- compulsory individual tasks that will be displayed in Egela. All the tasks must be accomplished in due time.

2.- final exam comprising contents worked on during the course

3.- a language test (C1 level) at the end of the course



To pass the whole subject, all students must get a pass in the three parts: Phonology, Morphosyntax and Language Test.



The final mark will be calculated according to the following percentages:

- Phonology and Morphosyntax (exams and tasks): 80%

- Language test: 20%



Students who do not take the final exam or the language test will get "Ez aurkeztua" in the subject.

Evaluation will be carried out similarly to that in the first call (ohiko deialdia).

Students who do not take the final exam or the language test will get "Ez aurkeztua" in the subject.
