Thomas Maupas earned a bachelor's degree in Analytical Chemistry from the Université Paul Sabatier Site de Castres (2017). He obtained his master's specialization in Chemistry and sciences of the Marine environment in the Institut Universitaire Européen de la Mer in Brest (IUEM) (2020). He specialised in studying the fate and behaviour of micro- and nano-plastics in the marine environment during an internship in the Institut des Sciences Analytiques et de Physico-chimie pour l'Environnement et les Matériaux (IPREM). He is now in a PhD student position in cotutelle between the University of Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and the Université de Pau et des Pays de l'Adour (UPPA) which he is able to fulfill thanks to a grant given by the UPV/EHU. His work is focused on studying the microplastics abundance on the Basque coast and studying their interactions with heavy metals in coastal environments.
