G007- Understanding of the relationship between citizens and buildings and between them and their surroundings, as well as the need to relate buildings and the space left between them, depending on the human scale and needs.

M06CM02- Advanced skills for: elaborate functional programmes for buildings and urban areas (T); intervene, preserve, restoration and rehabilitation of the built heritage (T); the practice of architectural critique; fulfilment of security, evacuation and protection of buildings (T); drafting of civil engineering projects (T); design and execution of urban layouts and urbanization, landscape and gardening projects (T); application of urban regulation and ordinances (T); drafting of environmental, landscape and environmental impact correction studies (T).



M06CM04- Advanced skills for: general theory of architectural form, composition and typologies; general history of Architecture; study methods for the processes of symbolization, practical functions and ergonomics; study methods for social needs, life quality and the habitability and basic programmes of housing; ecology, sustainability and the preservation principles of the energetic and environmental resources; architectural, urban and landscape tradition of western culture, as well as its technical, climatic, economic, social and ideological fundamentals; the aesthetics and theory of fine arts and applied arts; the relation between cultural patterns and the social responsibilities of the architect; the basis of vernacular architecture; urban sociology, theory, economy and history; the methodological foundations of urban, regional and metropolitan planning; drafting and management mechanisms of urban plans of any scale.



M06CM05- Advanced skills for: civil, administrative, urban, industrial and housing regulation related to the professional performance; the viability analysis and the supervision and coordination of integrated projects; real state appraisal.



Transversal competences

The syllabus has not defined any.

The subject is divided into theoretical lectures and practical workshops that develop the objectives and competences mentioned above.

Theoretical contents:

Theme 1: The different kind of detailed urban plans and their requirements for a coherent urban development. Detailed studies and urbanization projects.

Theme 2: Land-use appraisals and their legal and economic framework.

Theme 3: Urban management process and the situations raised by land-use legislation. “Urban action programes” and urban management systems.

Theme 4: Re-parcelling projects.

Theme 5: Urban planning discipline.



Practical programme:

The development of an urban management document.

1st METHODOLOGY: Theoretical Lessons

Theoretical lectures that provide in addition the necessary fundamentals for the comprehension of practical exercises, also including oral presentations, case studies and debate sessions.

2nd METHODOLOGY: Workshop Sessions

Regular workshop sessions in which students will be involved in transferring theoretical concepts towards the development of practical exercises. They include both individual and group work.

3rd METHODOLOGY: Visits and excursions

If necessary, students will go on a guided visit to the site together with the professor.

4th METHODOLOGY: Tutorial sessions

The aim of tutorial sessions is the review of the submitted work as a complement of the regular lectures. Tutorial sessions may be either in group or individual.

5th METHODOLOGY: Transversal workshop sessions

Workshop sessions during which students may also be assisted by other teaching staff different to Urbanism (Architectural Design, Architectural Composition, Architectural Drawing and Constructive Analysis) for the development of the practical exercise.

Students provenly unable to follow the continuous evaluation course, by justified cause, will have the right to take a final evaluation. This final evaluation will consist in the delivery of the practical exercise work and an extra written exercise. The above situation must be notified to the teacher within the first 9 weeks of the course.



Should a student prefers to be granted a not presented mark after having submitted only part of the course exercises, he or she must notify this choice to the teacher by e-mail not later than one week prior to the final examination date.
