Short biography
Assoc. Prof. Kopani studied at the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics, and Informatics from 1994 to 1999. After graduation, he began working at the Institute of Pathological Anatomy as a research worker. His main activity involved the use of various physical methods, particularly electron microscopy, to detect foreign substances in cells and tissues, e.g., copper in the human liver in Wilson's disease and iron in hemochromatosis. Since 2014, he has been working at the Institute of Medical Physics and Biophysics as the head of the institute. His teaching activities consist of giving lectures to first-year students on the basic processes occurring in the body. For first-year students, he also conducts practical exercises. He lectures to students in the 4th and 5th years as part of an elective-compulsory course at the Faculty of Medicine, Comenius University, and also internationally (Wroclaw University, Poland and Aveiro University, Portugal) for PhD students.
Scientific activity continues to consist of the application of various physical methods in the study of the presence and physical properties of metals in cells and tissues. He supervises student research projects at the Faculty of Medicine, Comenius University, and supervises bachelor's and master's theses at the Faculty of Medicine, Comenius University, and the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics. He has supervised 4 PhD students. He regularly presents his work at international conferences and publishes in professional journals.
