Amaia Irizar Loibide, graduated in Biology (2008) from the UPV/EHU, and Master (2009) and Doctorate (2013) in Environmental Contamination and Toxicology from the UPV/EHU. She worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Aarhus (Denmark) between 2014-2016, and between 2016-2021 she worked also as a researcher in Biogipuzkoa. From the end of 2021 she is lecturer at the UPV/EHU, in the Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health of the Faculty of Medicine and Nursing.

She started his career studying how environmental pollution affects ecosystems, and her thesis focused on the study of biomarkers of exposure to metals in earthworms. At the University of Aarhus he continued in the same line, focusing in this case on nanoparticles. After her postdoctorate, she began to analyze the impact of environmental pollution on the human population within the research group of Environmental Epidemiology and Child Development in Biogipuzkoa.

Since then, she has led different projects in this field, analyzing the effect of perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and the role of DNA methylation, for example. From 2023, she also studies the effect of DNA methylation and endocrine disruptors on endometriosis.
