Admission criteria
Profile for admission
There are two types of admission profiles:
- -Background in the field of Mechanical Engineering: Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Industrial Engineering, with a pre-intensification and a major in one of the Mechanical Engineering branches (Mechanical Design, Manufacturing, Construction), or a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the UPV/EHU.
- - Bachelor's and master's degrees related to Mechanical Engineering and related to the Areas of Knowledge included in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the UPV/EHU. In all cases, students must have completed a minimum of 300 ECTS credits or their certified equivalent, of which at least 60 ECTS credits must correspond to second-cycle or master's studies. The program's Academic Committee will decide, based on each student's admissions profile, whether or not he/she needs to acquire training through specific training supplements. This training will be acquired by completing between 6 and 15 ECTS credits of subjects from official master's degrees offered by the UPV/EHU in the field of Mechanical Engineering or other equivalent training. Students will enroll in these courses, advised by their tutors or thesis supervisors, once they have enrolled in the doctoral program.
Regardless of the profile, and in the case of curricular paths that allow for a high degree of customization, whether through optional courses, dual training programs, or any type of validation, the doctoral committee will analyze any training gaps that may arise. Where appropriate, and if the committee deems it feasible, those gaps will be compensated through specific training supplements.
In accordance with Article 6.- “Requirements and Criteria for Admission” of the Regulations for Managing Official Doctoral Studies at the University of the Basque Country of 25 April 2024, the submission of an endorsement by a researcher of the doctoral programme as a possible director of the doctoral thesis will be requested as a requirement for admission.
