Bachelor (2003) and PhD (2007) in Biochemistry from the University of the Basque Country (UPV / EHU). She did her thesis work at the Biophysics Unit (CSIC / UPV mixed center) in the area of programmed cell death (apoptosis). In 2008 she joined the Dept. of Cell Biology at the University of Geneva as a postdoctoral researcher to study the involvement of mitochondrial dynamics in apoptosis. In 2011 she returned to the Biophysics Unit as a Juan de la Cierva researcher. Currently, and since 2013, she is assistant professor of the Dept. of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and member of the Equality Commission of the Faculty of Science and Technology.

She has directed or co-directed 7 final degree projects and a thesis with international mention. She has participated in 17 research projects. She is the co-author of 11 scientific articles, 1 book chapter and about 30 contributions to national and international conferences.

Her research line focuses on understanding (i) the involvement of mitochondrial lipids in the mechanism of action of proteins that regulate mitochondrial dynamics, and (ii) the implication of mitochondrial fission in the process of apoptosis.
