Description

It is planned as a course with compulsory attendance, with a theoretical explanation of each of the modules, which will be accompanied by a series of practical exercises which the participants must perform throughout the sessions.

Results

The doctoral student will acquire the necessary tools to access, evaluate, use and disseminate information in an ethical manner.

Assessment systems

It is an on-site seminar, and therefore attendance is compulsory and will be monitored by means of signatures for each of the modules. At the end of the activity the tutor will be given a report allowing an assessment of the acquisition of the skills associated with this activity.

Description

These are intensive residential seminars lasting a week. They are conducted in English in an inter-disciplinary and multicultural environment. Forty researchers from each university, in their second year of doctoral training, receive extensive training designed for their future vocational integration in a socio-labour environment not exclusively linked to research at universities and/or public and semi-public centres. All the activities are dynamised by personnel specializing in the organization of doctorials and the facilitation of teamwork. The scheduled activities include visits to companies, research centres and cultural entities selected from both sides of the border, the testimonies of executive doctors and entrepreneurs and teamwork for the joint preparation of an innovative project which will be submitted at the end of the encounter. Participation in the doctorials is optional and does not entail any enrolment fee. All the maintenance, accommodation and transport costs will be financed by the organizing universities, with the help of the funding obtained from the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Aquitaine-Euskadi cooperation fund of the Basque government.

Results

The doctoral students acquire practical training in communication, innovation, teamwork, leadership and entrepreneurship. Based on the testimonies and experiences of different professionals working in companies and associations in the field of culture and language, as well as visits to companies and associations, the students come into direct contact with professional experience. These seminars have an inter-disciplinary approach, grouping the students together in units which combine different universities of origin and areas of knowledge. The experience should provide a wealth of knowledge about how to articulate a future professional project both in and outside the University.

Assessment systems

The whole procedure for the doctorials is overseen by a pedagogical cabinet, with professional advisers who will provide continuous feedback on the group activity and monitor the work done every day by the doctoral students. Once the latter have enrolled for the doctorials, attendance and active participation in the sessions is compulsory.

Description

These form a series of conferences and seminars, each lasting two hours, organized by the participating bodies and conducted during the second semester of each academic year in order to complete the specific training in the field of chemical synthesis. The seminars are conducted in Spanish and English but with a preponderance of English as the language of academic exchange. The conferences and seminars will focus on current issues in the area of Synthetic Chemistry and will be taught at the different participating institutions by renowned national and international experts. The content varies each year so that all the doctoral students can take part and continue to complete their academic training.

Results

The students will acquire advanced scientific training in Synthetic Chemistry, coming into direct contact with prestigious national and international researchers. The experience will provide them with new knowledge, allowing them to keep up to date not only with the specific subjects of their doctoral theses but also with the field of Synthetic Chemistry and facilitating the future development of their professional careers both inside and outside the university.

Assessment systems

Seminar attendance will be compulsory and it will therefore be monitored. Each student's tutor will assess the active participation in the conferences and seminars.

Description

Realization of short pre-doctoral stays at prestigious international centres during one of the last two years of the doctoral thesis in order to complete the research training. The aim is to encourage the students' mobility by means of stays which are relevant to the development of their thesis projects. These are designed to provide the acquisition of new techniques, access to scientific facilities and other significant activities within the context of the trainee researchers' thesis projects, contributing to their scientific and technical training. In addition, shorter stays (1-4 weeks) will also be promoted at other research centres in order to increase the students' knowledge of the lines of research related to their doctoral theses and to enable them to acquire more experience in the area. In the case of the UPV/EHU, this activity will be financed by means of the UFI QOSYC (www.ehu.es/qosyc).

Results

The doctoral students will complete their scientific training by means of the learning and perfecting of different experimental techniques. The experience will also allow them to learn more about other university systems, coming into direct contact with internationally renowned researchers, and obtain the European or International Mention for the Doctorate.

Assessment systems

This activity is optional and the student must have the authorizations of his or her thesis director, the university where the doctoral thesis is conducted and the institution which has awarded the grant. Once the stay has been completed, the trainee researcher will submit: - A report on the work performed, containing the results obtained and recording the agreement of the work director of the institution or centre which the stay has been conducted. - A certificate for the stay, issued by the legal representative of the destination centre, stating the dates of the beginning and end of the stay, which must have the approval of the person responsible for the host scientific team or group.

Description

The aim is to encourage the doctoral students' participation in scientific conferences in the area, where they will initiate the presentation of the results of their research to the scientific community, in the form of written presentations (posters) and short oral presentations, as is done at the biennial meetings of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry and those of the corresponding Specialized Groups. Similarly, the students will also participate in conferences and scientific meetings, including workshops on the research topics of the lines included in this doctoral program, organized by the Unit of Training and Research into Organic Chemistry, Synthesis and Catalysis (UFI QOSYC) of the UPV/EHU, into which all the research groups of this university are integrated, or others with similar characteristics.

Results

Participation in these kinds of scientific events (1-2 per year) will allow the students to update their knowledge of their field of work and come into contact and exchange views with other researchers in the area. The results of this activity are the practical learning of the dissemination of research results and the development of transversal skills such as oral and/or written communication.

Assessment systems

This activity is optional. Once students have registered for the congress/conference attendance and participation in the sessions will be compulsory and monitored by the students' tutors/directors, who will evaluate the oral and/or written presentations.
