Profile for admission
The PhD programme in Cognitive Neuroscience is aimed at students who have completed a Master's degree in "Cognitive Neuroscience of Language" or another university master's degree in Cognitive Neuroscience or similar, or 60 university master's degree credits that are related to the multidisciplinary field of Cognitive Neuroscience (e.g. Psychology, Biology, Medicine, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or Linguistics).
According to the provisions of Article 7 of RD 99/2011, of 28 January, regulating the official teaching of PhDs, the Doctoral Programme may include specific complementary training as may be required The programme does not provide for its own training supplements as it has a specific research master programme for the programme (the Master's Degree in Cognitive Neuroscience of Language) whose theoretical and methodological courses can be used to supplement the training of students who do not have the appropriate training to carry out their doctoral thesis because they have studied other related master's degrees. In such cases, the doctoral commission may require the completion of training supplements and the student will be accepted or admitted to the Doctoral Programme, but on a conditional basis. Supplementary training may be linked to research credits or to theoretical or methodological training.
When selecting the candidates, the criteria considered by the academic committee will be:(1) Candidate's academic record in undergraduate and master's degrees (35%)(2) Specific training in the field of cognitive neuroscience (15%)(3) Knowledge of English (20%)(4) Scientific publications and other research merits (10%)(5) Personal interview with assessment of the following aspects: theoretical and methodological knowledge, previous experience, motivation, interest, initiative, attitude to learn (20%)Based on all these criteria, the academic committee will decide whether the candidate is (a) accepted, (b) rejected, or (c) accepted subject to the completion of a given number of training credits.The Academic Committee will notify the candidates of their results. Once notified, students must contact their tutor and complete the enrolment process. Within a maximum period of three months, the academic committee, together with the tutor and the doctoral candidate, will assign a thesis director.

Procedure for assigning a faculty member as a doctoral thesis tutor and director
Once a student has been accepted onto the doctoral programme, the Academic Commission will assign them a tutor from among the faculty at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) participating in the programme, who will then be responsible for ensuring good interaction with the Academic Commission and adapting the training and research activities to the principles established by the programme and the Doctorate School.
Within three months of enrolment, the Academic Commission will assign each student a thesis director from among the faculty participating in the programme. The director may or may or not be the same person as the tutor, and will be responsible for guiding and ensuring the consistency of the training and research tasks, and guaranteeing that the topic of the thesis have an impact and make a novel contribution to the field. They are also responsible for guiding the thesis plan and adapting it, if required, to other projects and activities in which the PhD student is involved.
If the director is not a member of the faculty at the UPV/EHU, the tutor will act as a liaison.
Doctoral theses may also be co-directed, and the second co-director may or may not be a member of the DP. New tutors or directors may be assigned at any moment during the thesis.
