Diego Carbajo Padilla holds a PhD in Sociology and is an assistant lecturer in the Department of Sociology and Social Work at the University of the Basque Country (UPV-EHU). He teaches Sociology of Work, Sociology of Consumption and Science, Technology and Society.

His PhD dissertation on the residential transitions of young people from the Basque Country won the runner-up prize in the "Basque Social Reality 2014 Award" granted by the Presidency of the Basque Government. He has been a pre- and post-doctoral researcher for the Basque Government and has carried out several research stays at Cardiff University in the UK and RMIT University in Australia.

His main line of research articulates the concepts of youth, space, precarity and entrepreneurship. He has published on the squatting movement of the Basque Country (2007), the phenomenon of “youth lonjas” (2012, 2021) and the precarization of the housing transitions of young people (2014). His most recent articles delve into the subjective effects of youth entrepreneurship policies (2019, 2020 and 2023).

His second line of research (intermittent and self-funded) tries to force the limits of Sociology. This has led to more experimental works based on ANT, STS Studies, multi-species ethnography and the notion of the Anthropocene. In this line, he has published on artistic practices and shepherd-dog competitions (2010), basque “soapbox-cars” competitions (2018) and donkey-assisted therapy (2023).
