Alberto de Diego obtained his PhD in Chemistry in 1996 and subsequently spent two years as a postdoctoral researcher at the CNRS in Bordeaux/Pau. He is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Analytical Chemistry at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and a member of the IBeA research group, recognised as a type A consolidated research group by the Basque Government. He is attached to the Faculty of Science and Technology (ZTF, UPV/EHU) and the Plentzia Marine Station (PIE, UPV/EHU). He has supervised nine doctoral theses and is currently supervising three other doctoral students. Alberto de Diego has published 8 book chapters and more than 100 research articles in international journals and has participated in the elaboration of two academic books. He has an H-index of 26 with over 2000 citations since 1995. His main research interests include i) development and optimisation of analytical methods, ii) monitoring of chemical pollution in aquatic and atmospheric environments, iii) chemical analysis of food and beverages for quality control, traceability of geographical origin and fraud detection, iv) application of chemometrics to environmental data analysis, v) detection and chemical characterisation of microplastics in environmental samples.
