Abbreviated CV

I graduated with a Bachelor in Chemical Engineering (UPV/EHU, 2005). That same year, I entered the CPWV research group with an FPU (University Professor Program) scholarship to undertake a PhD. I took part in a research exchange with the University of Western Ontario (Canada) in 2008. Upon my return, I started my teaching career as an internal teacher in the Faculty of Science and Technology (FCT/ZTF).

After defending my thesis in 2010, I taught at the Technical Engineering School of Bilbao (2010) and the Superior School of Engineering of Bilbao (2010-2012). In 2012, I obtained a position as Assistant Professor in the Chemical Engineering Department at the UPV/EHU. I have been an Associate Professor in the same department since 2020.

My research activity focuses on the following topics: i) valorization of wastes (plastics, tires, biomass, etc.) or secondary refinery streams via pyrolysis and catalytic cracking so as to obtain fuels or recover monomers; ii) sustainable production of hydrogen via reforming of oxygenate compounds such as ethanol and bio-oil; as well as in situ CO2 capture; iii) design, testing, and kinetic modelling of reactors that are suitable for these processes, such as: the conical spouted bed, fluidized beds, or the FCC riser simulator, as well as the analysis of reaction mechanisms by means of operando reactors (FTIR and UV-Vis spectroscopic cells) and their correlation to conventional reactors; and iv) synthesis, characterization, selection of catalysts, and their optimization, with special emphasis on their deactivation and regenerability.

My current research activity focuses on the valorization of wastes via pyrolysis in order to obtain value added products, as well as on the analysis of catalyst deactivation. I have taken part as a researcher in 31 Research Programs, which have given way to 33 articles in indexed journals (JCR). These articles have been cited on more than 3200 occasions, having an h-index of 24. I have also taken part in more than 80 contributions to conferences, mostly international, where I have been awarded the best contribution to the conference three times.

I am currently a member of the research commission of the FCT/ZTF, and the third year coordinator for the Biotechnology Bachelor program and the subjects Mass Transfer and Fluid Mechanics. I teach three subjects in English in the Biotechnology and Chemical Engineering Bachelor programs, in addition to a subject from the Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering (Modelling and Simulation of Chemical Processes).
