González Velasco, Juan Ramón

He received the Master degree in Chemistry in 1975 and the PhD degree in Industrial Chemistry in 1979 at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), both awarded with Honor Mention (Premio Extraordinario de Licenciatura y Doctorado). From 1988 he is Full Professor (Catedrático) of Chemical Engineering at the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST, UPV/EHU). He was Vice-Rector for Research at the UPV/EHU (1996-2000) and Dean of the FST, UPV/EHU (2000-2006). He spent academic periods as Visiting Professor at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst (USA), Slovak Technical University (Bratislava) and Universidad de Buenos Aires (Argentina).

He is authors of over 250 papers appeared in internationally highly recognized journals, in the field of application of catalysts to environmental protection, energy production and, in general, chemical engineering of catalytic processes. He contributed with over 500 contributions and invited lectures to congresses and workshops in these fields. He was awarded the “Burdinola 2000” prize for relevant contributions to reactor design for environmental applications and received “Euskoiker 2011” award for strengthening university-industry cooperation in the Basque Country. He is associate editor of the scientific magazine Chemical Papers (ISSN: 0366-6352) by Springer-Verlag. He is authors of the textbook “Cinética Química Aplicada”.

Scientific Societies Executive duties: Secretary of the International Association of Catalysis Societies (IACS, 1996-2000), Dean of Colegio Oficial de Químicos del País Vasco (2002-06), President of the Spanish Society of Catalysis (2006-13), and currently Spanish representative at the Council of the European Federation of Catalysis Societies (EFCATS, 2007-).
