I am a historian specialising in the late Habsburg Empire, with a particular focus on linguistic, national and religious diversity. I recently published a book on linguistic diversity and the imperial Habsburg army, in which I also highlight conflicts that arose when the army came into contact with the civilian population in times of peace and war. This project is now being followed by a study on the role of the Roman Catholic Church, and in particular its clergy, in relation to diversity and identities between Central European empires, nations and regions, as propagated within the official framework of the Church's self-proclaimed universalism.
