Arturo Muga is Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), and member of the Biofisika Institute. He graduated from the University of the Basque Country and obtained the PhD degree from the same University, working on membrane protein structure. After spending a postdoctoral period of two years at the NRCC of Canada, he obtained a position in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of the University of the Basque Country, where he started a group working in protein folding and molecular chaperones. He has published more than 100 papers and book chapters, supervised 13 PhD students, and participated in 46 regional, national and international research projects. His current research interest is focused on the capacity of the protein machinery known as the human disaggregase to remodel protein aggregates and fibers related to neurodegenerative disorders, and, in particular, in the functional association of the molecular chaperones that build this macromolecular complex.
