Great post! I’m feeling the pain here in Silicon Valley. Used to be I’d think nothing of meeting for drinks and appetizers at a Palo Alto bar/restaurant, then me picking up the bill. I just can’t do that for a first date anymore.

I love wine tasting for dates. You’re right - there are built-in conversations regarding the wine or the regions the wine is from. Travel is always a fun topic.

Your walking tour idea is intriguing too - though, I’d add the wrinkle that you should find some theme or angle. For instance, go visit all the mosaics scattered around San Francisco, or check out murals by a famous Mexican artist in LA.
