Department of Immunology, Microbiology and Parasitology

The Department of Immunology, Microbiology and Parasitology carries out important teaching and research work in three faculties of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU): Faculty of Science and Technology, Faculty of Pharmacy, and Faculty of Medicine and Nursing. In addition to the teaching activity in different academic degrees, our department is responsible for the University Master's Degree entitled ‘Microbiology and Health’. This master allows access to the Doctorate Program in ‘Immunology, Microbiology and Parasitology’ and subsequently the completion of the PhD thesis. More than 100 doctoral theses have been supervised in this Department since it was set up.

In the field of scientific research, our department carries out outstanding work by eleven different research groups, six of which are recognized as Consolidated Research Groups by the Basque Government. Some of their lines of research are related to human infections and others to the environmental sciences.

It is also worth noting that several teachers from our department carry out management tasks in the UPV/EHU government team or in the different management teams of the faculties where our department is present. We should also highlight the important involvement of some of our teachers in committees and commissions of scientific and professional societies, or in the management and editorial committees of many prestigious scientific journals.

Finally, we would like to highlight the important involvement of our teaching staff in scientific dissemination and non-university teaching activities that bring Science and university closer to our society.
