METHOD FOR THE DIAGNOSIS AND PROGNOSIS OF CUTANEOUS MELANOMA
This invention comprises genetic markers that indicate tumor cells with invasive phenotype and a diagnosing tool.
TYPE OF DEVELOPMENT
Diagnosis and prognosis method
DESCRIPTION
The diagnoses of approximately 70% of patients with melanoma diagnosed are in early stages of the disease. Most of them are "low risk" patients due to their high probability of cure through surgery. However, for cases of metastatic melanoma, there are still no diagnostic methods or effective therapies capable of improving patient survival.
The present development consists of certain genetic markers whose expression analysis would indicate if the tumor cells have an invasive phenotype and would alert us of the need to apply an additional treatment to the surgical removal of the tumor.
This invention comprises a diagnosing tool based on the expression of biomarkers.
INDICATION
- Diagnosis and prognosis of metastatic cutaneous melanoma.
NOVELTY/ADVANTAGE
- To date, there is not any known prognostic genetic marker of cutaneous melanoma evolution.
- Easy technique to perform.
