Summary:

AN IN-DEPTH SURVEY IS CARRIED OUT IN THIS PhD THESIS ABOUT THE TECHNOLOGICAL CHANGES AND CHANGES IN DESIGN IN DAILY NEWSPAPERS IN THE BASQUE AUTONOMOUS REGION - CHANGES THAT, DESPITE INCLUDING THE LATEST TRENDS IN JOURNALISTIC DESIGN TYPICAL OF AMERICAN DESIGNERS, REMAIN FAITHFUL IN TERMS OF THEIR GENERAL TRENDS TO THE GUIDELINES SET OUT A DECADE EARLIER BY THE EUROPEAN DESIGN CENTRE AND PROMOTED BY EL PAIS NEWSPAPER. RELATIONS EXISTING BETWEEN THE TECHNOLOGICAL CHANGES AND THE FORMAL PRESENTATIONS OF NEWSPAPERS ARE ALSO ANALYZED AND CERTAIN GENERAL GUIDELINES ARE SET OUT AS TO WHAT THE AUTHOR UNDERSTANDS TO BE FUTURE TRENDS IN JOURNALISTIC DESIGN THAT FOCUS ON A WAY OF UNDERSTANDING THE JOURNALISM OF TOMORROW AND WHAT IS KNOWN AS SERVICE JOURNALISM.
