Summary:

THE AIM OF THE RESEARCH IS TO FIND OUT THE CONTRIBUTION OF AUDIOVISUAL DOCUMENTATION TO TV NEWS PROGRAMMES. FOLLOWING A THEORETICAL APPROACH TO JOURNALISTIC DOCUMENTATION, AUDIOVISUAL DOCUMENTATION AND STUDIES IN MASS COMMUNICATION, THE FIELD RESEARCH IS THEN DEVELOPED IN THREE AREAS:  1) ANALYSIS OF DAILY TV NEWS PROGRAMMES IN ORDER TO FIND OUT ABOUT THE DOCUMENTATION USED IN THESE PROGRAMMES VIA A QUANTITATIVE AND QUALITATIVE SURVEY MADE UP OF THREE SAMPLES; 2) ANALYSIS OF THE REQUESTS FOR AUDIOVISUAL DOCUMENTATION MADE BY THE EDITORIAL STAFF OF NEWS PROGRAMMES; AND  3) STUDY OF TELEVISION DOCUMENTATION SERVICES BASED ON THE RESULTS OF A SURVEY. 

THE TIME SCALE FOR THE FIELD RESEARCH IS DURING THE YEARS 1993-1994, WITHIN THE UNIVERSE OF STATE BROADCASTING STATIONS.
