Dr M. Mirari Antxustegi, BSc (Hon.) and PhD in Applied Chemistry by the University of Strathclyde (U.K.) and Licenciada en CC Químicas by UPV/EHU. She is Assistant professor since 2011.

She started researching at the Fuel Chemistry Laboratory, University of Strathclyde, studying the influence of solvent treatment on the structure of coals. From that, she went on to observe how these treatments affected on the pore structure. Together with some colleagues, she developed a new technique called Contrast-Matching Small-Angle Neutron Scattering (CM-SANS), to be able to observe the changes on the carbon matrix during combustion and/or gasification processes. To that end, she visited and collaborated in several research centres such as IPNS (Argonne National Laboratory, EEUU) and ISIS (Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, U.K.). She was a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Fluid and Thermal Process Engineering, Division of Engineering in Brown University (EEUU). She has worked on several research groups within UPV/EHU studying catalytic combustion processes and, mainly, in the design, production and characterisation of carbon materials for energy applications. She is a member of the "Biorefinery Processes" (BioRP) research group.
