Summary:

THE SPECIFIC NATURE OF POLITICAL COMMUNICATION IN BIZKAIA LIES IN THE EVIDENCE OF A CONTRADICTION; WHILE BASQUE NATIONALISM HAS POLITICALLY ASSERTED ITSELF IN  RECENT YEARS IN TERMS OF ELECTORAL CONFRONTATIONS, IT HAS PROVED INCAPABLE OF REACHING A DOMINANT SITUATION AS FAR AS THE MEDIA IS CONCERNED. THE INFLUENCE OF THE LATTER HAS BEEN LIMITED TO A GREAT EXTENT OWING TO DIFFERENT STRUCTURAL SOCIOLOGICAL KEYS AND SYMBOLIC CODES, IN ADDITION TO THE DIFFERENT SOCIALIZATION PROCESSES, AMONG WHICH THE COMMUNICATIVE INTERVENTION OF THE POLITICAL PARTIES PLAYS A DECISIVE ROLE.
