Summary:

The PhD thesis is based on an analysis of community television in Colombia in terms of levels of production, programme planning and audience, for which purpose in-depth interview methods, direct observation in field work (on the level of production), analysis of contents (in the level of programme planning) and the survey and group session (on the audience level) are used.
The results of the analysis enable a "Community television model for human development" to be put forward, made up of components involving participation, programme planning, screening, strategic alliances and human development. Based on this model, three further proposals are also put forward which are related to: (1) journalism (basic principles for community journalism); (2) TV programme planning (with programmes that help to improve human development indicators in Colombia); and (3) journalist training (didactic programme for training the journalist).
