Programme

The two schools that comprise this doctoral program (EIB and ETSICCP) have fully equipped classrooms, computer centers, and workspaces.

As far as training of doctoral students is concerned, both universities have extensive teaching and research infrastructure, including workspaces, laboratories, and computer centers, in addition to the research groups' own resources. Particularly:The Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) offers the following infrastructure: three teaching laboratories, Fuel and waste characterization laboratory, Laboratory for the measurement of volatile and toxic organic compounds in air located in the Valderejo Natural Park (Alava), Laboratory for general chemical analysis of environmental samples and electromagnetic radiation measurement, Aerosol technology laboratory and Meteorological modeling and pollutant dispersion laboratory. The Department of Water and Environmental Sciences and Techniques at the University of Cantabria (UC) offers the following infrastructure: Teaching Laboratory, Water and Wastewater Laboratory (ISO 9001 accredited for the characterization of natural waters, wastewater discharges, and treatment processes), Waste Laboratory (with adapted equipment for sampling at urban/rural presentation points and discharge/evacuation points), Pilot Plant and Instrumental Techniques Laboratories, Ecology Laboratory and Environmental Modeling Laboratory.

Doctoral students have full access to the EIB and ETSICCP student and research libraries, as well as to all electronic databases and tools available at both universities. Both libraries are continuously updated in the field of environmental engineering through the acquisition of books, periodicals, and other materials requested by the doctoral programme members.Specifically, the EIB Library is part of the UPV/EHU University Library and offers a large open-access room. Its catalogue includes the bibliographic collections of all the other UPV/EHU centers.The ETSICCP Library in Santander is part of the UC University Library and offers four open-access rooms (Monographs, References, Journals, and Basic rooms). Its catalogue includes the bibliographic collections of all the other UC centers.The function of both libraries is to support teaching, student, and research activities in both centers, so that they offer complete bibliographic, documentary, and audiovisual collections, regardless their location and origin. Both libraries periodically organize training courses about library services and the use of information sources aimed at faculty members and students.
