Profile for admission
Apart from meeting the general requirements to access this Doctoral Programme, the candidate must also show an interest in research in the broad field of Social Sciences. People from other areas and disciplines will also be welcome, but they should be aware that the research work must be aimed at the social sphere, and they must also accredit having studied a master's degree related to Social Sciences in a broad sense (including Law, Psychology, Philosophy, International Relations, etc.).
So, any qualifications obtained on the completed master's degree will be taken into account, particularly those from courses related to the methods and techniques of social research, social theory and applications in the processing and knowledge of research techniques, statistical analysis of data and a knowledge of qualitative techniques of social research.
Este programa no establece complementos de formación específicos de forma general. Sin embargo, la comisión académica puede establecer la necesidad de complementos específicos de investigación para cada caso individual, en función del perfil con el que acceda cada graduado/a, especialmente si se procede de un Máster no especializado en investigación social.
Los criterios de admisión serán los siguientes:- Nota media del Grado: 30%- Nota media del Máster de acceso: 30%- Procedencia de titulaciones afines (Ciencias Sociales): 10%- Participación en la realización de estudios e investigaciones: 10%- Experiencia profesional: vinculación con empresas o centros de investigación: 10%- Carta de presentación (motivaciones, línea de investigación, pertenencia a grupo de investigación, opción a beca, etc.): 10%.

Procedure for assigning a faculty member as a doctoral thesis tutor and director
Once a student has been accepted onto the doctoral programme, the Academic Commission will assign them a tutor from among the faculty at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) participating in the programme, who will then be responsible for ensuring good interaction with the Academic Commission and adapting the training and research activities to the principles established by the programme and the Doctorate School.
Within three months of enrolment, the Academic Commission will assign each student a thesis director from among the faculty participating in the programme. The director may or may or not be the same person as the tutor, and will be responsible for guiding and ensuring the consistency of the training and research tasks, and guaranteeing that the topic of the thesis have an impact and make a novel contribution to the field. They are also responsible for guiding the thesis plan and adapting it, if required, to other projects and activities in which the PhD student is involved.
If the director is not a member of the faculty at the UPV/EHU, the tutor will act as a liaison.
Doctoral theses may also be co-directed, and the second co-director may or may not be a member of the DP. New tutors or directors may be assigned at any moment during the thesis.
