INTERREG V
The INTERREG V Territorial Cooperation Programme is implemented within the Objective number 3 of the EU's cohesion policies for 2014-2020, and the ERDF programme guarantees its funding.
It is organised around three aspects: cross-border cooperation (Interreg A), transnational cooperation (Interreg B) and inter-regional cooperation (Interreg C).
Research is represented in each one of the operational programmes within the framework of strategic priorities aimed at Innovation/Research-Development. The aim of the programme is not to fund basic research, but to fund applied research, fostering the creation of relations or synergies with companies, and the development of cooperation networks.
Within the Basque Country region, INTERREG is made up of the following operational programmes: Interreg A POCTEFA (cross-border cooperation between France-Spain-Andorra), Interreg B SUDOE (transnational cooperation among southwest regions) Interreg B Arc Atlantic (transnational cooperation between the Arc Atlantic regions) and Interreg Europe (interregional cooperation between the regions from the EU28 and Noway and Switzerland.
INTERREG POCTEFA
Interreg POCTEFA seeks to strengthen socio-economic integration of the France-Spain-Andorra cross-border regions and is organised into 5 strategic axes.
- Axis 1: Innovation and competitiveness
- Axis 2: Climate change and risk prevention and management
- Axis 3: Protection, valorization and use of local resources
- Axis 4: Mobility of goods and persons
- Axis 5: Competencies and inclusion of territories
The geographical area includes the following provinces/regions:
- Spain: Bizkaia, Guipúzcoa, Álava, Navarra, La Rioja, Huesca, Zaragoza, Lleida, Girona, Barcelona y Tarragona.
- France: Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Ariège, Haute-Garonne, Hautes Pyrénées, Pyrénées-Orientales
- Andorra: all the territory

INTERREG SUDOE
Interreg SUDOE promotes transnational cooperation to tackle common issues of the regions located in the SUDOE territory. This programme is organised within the following 5 strategic axes:
- Axis 1: Research and innovation
- Axis 2: Competitiveness of SMEs
- Axis 3: Low-carbon economy
- Axis 4: Fighting against climate change
- Axis 5: Environment and resource efficiency
The geographical area includes:
- All the Autonomous Regions of Spain (except the Canary Islands)
- The regions of the south-west France (Auvergne, Occitaine and Nouvelle Aquitaine)
- Continental regions of Portugal
- Gibraltar
- Andorra.

INTERREG ATLANTIC AREA
INTERREG Atlantic Area promotes transnational cooperation among 36 Atlantic regions of five European countries through the following strategic axes:
- Axis 1: Stimulating innovation and competitiveness
- Axis 2: Fostering resource efficiency
- Axis 3: Strengthening the territory's resilience to risks of natural, climate and human origin
- Axis 4: Enhancing biodiversity and the natural and cultural assets

- Irland: Border, Midland and Western; Southern and Eastern

INTERREG EUROPE
Interreg Europe helps regional and local governments across Europe to develop and deliver better policy. Although agencies, research institutes, thematic and non-profit organisations are not the main target group of this programme, these types of organisations can also work with Interreg Europe by first engaging with their local policymakers in order to identify options for collaboration within Interreg Europe.

The programme is open to any organisation located in the EU, Switzerland and Norway.
