GISEL taldearen ikerketa-laborategiak
The group has research laboratories at the Bilbao School of Engineering and at the Eibar campus of the Gipuzkoa School of Engineering. These laboratories are open to collaborations with technology companies, grid operators, equipment manufacturers, and other stakeholders interested in the development of innovative electrical technologies. Thanks to these infrastructures, the group is equipped to undertake hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation projects, controller testing, interoperability testing, and functional validation under realistic conditions. Below, a brief description of each laboratory is provided, specifying the most important equipment available.
Real-Time Electrical Systems Simulation Laboratory (Bilbao)
Located in Building II of the Bilbao School of Engineering, this laboratory provides advanced infrastructure for the development, validation, and testing of solutions in the field of smart electrical systems. It is specifically focused on the study of electrical grid protection, distributed generation systems, microgrids, renewable energy integration, and power converter control.
The available equipment enables real-time simulation and precise emulation of complex electrical systems, facilitating both experimental work and collaborative development with companies and institutions.
The laboratory has three real-time electrical system simulators:
- 1 OPAL-RT Wanda 4U simulator
- 1 OPAL-RT OP4512 simulator
- 1 Typhoon HIL 402 simulator
These simulators can be connected to the following set of amplifiers and controllable power supplies to configure HIL testing of power equipment up to 2 kVA and control and protection equipment:
- 1 Pacific Source AMX320T 480V 2 kVA amplifier
- 1 Doble F6150 amplifier: 6 current channels (15 A-75 VA), 6 voltage channels (150 V-75 VA), and battery emulation up to 250 V DC
- 4 AVO MULTI-AMP 10E3T3G 1500 W amplifiers: each with 3 current channels and 3 voltage channels
- 1 EPOCH-20 amplifier: high-current output unit capable of supplying up to 187 A and 600 VA
Equipment cases are available Testing of protection relays and measurement and control systems for individual and automated testing:
- 1 OMICRON CMC 256plus protection device test set and universal calibrator
- 1 OMICRON CMC 156 protection device test set
- 1 SMC MENTOR 12 universal relay test system
Other equipment available for protection, control, and insulation testing:
- 1 DELL R360 server
- 2 DUTT INF-50 35 kW IGBT-based power converters
- 1 SCHAFFNER NSG 504 surge generator
- 1 SCHAFFNER NSG 600 interference test set
- 1 SCHAFFNER NSG 432 electrostatic discharge generator
