Biography

Senda Basasoro Garmendia got the Chemistry Degree qualification in 2016 in the Chemistry Faculty of UPV/EHU and she obtained the degree of Master in Chemistry and Polymers at the same center (2018). In November 2018 she joined "Materials + Technologies" group (GMT) in the Department of Chemical Engineering and the Environment of the UPV/EHU, working until September 2020 as Contracted Research Personnel (PIC) in a funded project by the Basque Government (ELKARTEK). In 2020, thanks to a grant awarded by the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, she worked synthesizing sustainable biopolymers from agro-industrial waste. In January 2021, she was awarded a pre-doctoral fellowship funded by the Basque Government and she continued as a researcher in the same group. She is doing her doctoral thesis, under the supervision of Dr. Nagore Gabilondo, that focuses on the development of chitosan-based nanomaterials with biomedical applications.

Research

His research line is based on the development of new biomaterials with biomedical applications; chitosan-based nanoparticles and nanofibers, for use in the administration of therapeutic agents to target cells.

His study focuses on the synthesis of nanoparticles that incorporate targeted ligands or other molecules of interest, such as peptides or proteins. It is also working on the development of electrospun nanofiber meshes as release platforms for the synthesized nanoparticles.
