He holds a PhD in Information Sciences from University of the Basque Country (UPV-EHU). He served for three years as vicedean for Interuniversity Relations of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Communication. Director of the master's degree in social communication at the UPV/EHU (2016-2018). Visiting scholar at the University of Cambridge (2012) and the University of Sevilla (2010). Erasmus+ scholarship for teaching staff mobility at the Universities of Wroclaw (2019, 2017), Porto (2015), Beira Interior (2013) and Trieste (2011).

In short, he has participated in 20 research projects (of which he has been the principal investigator in 5), that have led to 46 scientific articles in prestigious journals included in listings as JCR or SCOPUS. Nowadays is member of the research project “Active Audience and Journalism”, funded by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness.
