María Gloria Areitio Bertolín has a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science (July 1987) and PhD (March 1992) in Computer Science from the University of Deusto (Bilbao) and she is Specialist in Information Systems and Technologies Management in Business (Polytechnic University - Madrid).

She is currently a full professor in the area of Applied Economics at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and belongs to the Department of Applied Economics V. She teaches theoretical and practical subjects related to information and communication technologies in the Faculty of Economics and Business (UPV/EHU). She has been Academic Secretary of the Faculty of Economics and Business of the UPV/EHU (2002-2005). She has excellent evaluation in the Docentiaz Program (2010), and she has also been a member of the University Commission for Teaching Evaluation - Comisión Universitaria de Evaluación Docente (CUED) (2010-2018).

Since its constitution, as co-founder, she is member of the Laboratory of Applied Computer Science – Laboratorio de Informática Aplicada (LIA/IAL) of the UPV/EHU.

She has participated in research projects framed in her main lines of research: information systems in the business environment, as well as the didactics of ICT in higher education. She has directed a doctoral thesis. She has written several books. And currently she is a regular speaker at congresses and scientific conferences on the aforementioned research
