Erlantz Lizundia completed his PhD in Advanced Materials Engineering in 2011 at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), which was recognized with the Extraordinary Doctoral Award (limited to the Top 10%). During 2012-2013 he moved to the private industry to focus on the industrial application of biopolymers. He combined teaching and research in the UPV/EHU during the 2014-2015 period. Latter, he joined Prof. Mark MacLachlan´s group at the University of the British Columbia (Canada) in January 2016 and Prof. Markus Niederberger´s group at the Department of Materials at ETH Zürich (Switzerland) in January 2018. Since September 2016 he is Associate Professor at the Faculty of Engineering in Bilbao, where he teaches the Bachelor courses of “Engineering Graphics” and “Extended Engineering Graphics” and the Master´s course of “Ecodesign and Circular Economy”. His work is devoted to the development of renewable materials (cellulose, chitin, carrageenan, alginate…) for energy storage, environmental remediation, packaging, and actuators. He has published 3 book chapters and > 100 manuscripts (>3200 citations; h-index:34). Erlantz has been named World's Top 2% Scientist by Stanford University in the category of Polymers for the years 2020 and 2021.
