Rubén Seoane-Rivero
Short CV
Established researcher in advanced polymeric materials, functional coatings, and sustainable composite materials, with more than 15 years of experience developed in both academic and technological environments. His scientific career has been carried out at the Iñaki Goenaga Foundation (2011–2013), the GAIKER Technology Centre (2013–2024), and currently at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), where he holds a position as Assistant Professor at the Bilbao School of Engineering and is a member of the SuPrEn (Sustainable Process Engineering) research group.
His research has evolved from the molecular design of smart and self-healing polymer systems to the development of next-generation sustainable composite materials for high-performance applications in the aerospace, transportation, and automotive sectors.
His early research focused on self-healing photosensitive coatings based on coumarin derivatives, capable of undergoing wavelength-dependent photocrosslinking and photodecrosslinking processes. Currently, his research activity is oriented toward the development of bio-based and circular materials through the valorization of textile waste and agroforestry biomass.
He is the author of 20 scientific publications indexed in Web of Science and Scopus, of which 14 have been published in Q1 journals in the field of Polymer Science. His scientific output has accumulated 211 citations (h-index = 7), with a field-weighted citation impact 3.03 times higher than the global average in his research area.
He is also co-inventor of three patents (ES2537618A, EP3392243A1, and EP3492457A1) related to photosensitive and self-healing polyurethane coatings.
