Graduated in Biochemistry in the UCM (2007) and PhD in Molecular Biology and Biomedicine in the UPV/EHU (2012) under the supervision of Professor José Luis Nieva, she has participated in 23 (2 as principal investigator) national and international research projects that have yielded 25 publicantions in international journals, 40 contributions to diverse scientific meetings and 1 doctoral Thesis. In the course of her research, she has visited national and international institutions such as the Biotec Institute of the Technical University of Dresden and Bioquant - Max Plank Institute for Metals Research, German Cancer Center (Heidelberg) both in Germany, and CNIC (Madrid, Spain). Her research interest has been focused on the design and characterization of membrane interacting peptides from viral origin, such as HIV or SARS-CoV-2, so that they would expose epitopes recognized by neutralizing antibodies targeting these region and thus, to use them as vaccine surrogates. For this, she utilizes lipid-based membrane model systems and spectroscopy and microscopy techniques, along with cellular biology techniques. Nowadays, she is an Associate Professor of the UPV/EHU (Faculty and Pharmacy – Araba Campus) where, along with Dr. Edurne Rujas, Ikerbasque Research Fellow, they have stablished an antibody engineering platform to improve therapeutic antibodies for cancer and infectious diseases. Within this line of research they are currently supervising 4 Doctoral Theses.
