Note: Exchange applications can be sent only for BA Programs. At this moment, we do not have any exchange possibilities in our MA Programs. These programs have limited enrollment, so we are currently unable to accept exchange students. Classes are taught exclusively in Spanish, so a high level of proficiency is recommended. The only option we can currently offer international exchange MA students is to enroll in 4th-year BA courses.

NOMINATION

A prior nomination from the home institution via email is required. Send an email to: estudiantes-internacional.bellasartes@ehu.eus

Needed information: student's full name and email address; passport number; date of birth.

ONLINE APPLICATION

1. After you are officially nominated, you will get an invitation to fill out the online application. To continue, please email the required information and a copy of your passport (JPEG or PDF) to estudiantes-internacional.bellasartes@ehu.eus

2. Submit your application through the GAUR online platform (see guide for instructions). Before accessing GAUR, ensure you have prepared the following documents:

• Learning Agreement (Erasmus students should use OLA/EWP)
• A copy of your passport (JPEG or PDF). Your passport should be valid for the duration of your stay.
• A dossier or portfolio in PDF format (not needed for conservation students). Please do not send web links or other media formats.
• Language certificate(s): English upper B2. Spanish upper B1 is highly recommended.

ACCEPTANCE

Once you receive an Acceptance Letter, send a copy of the UNLIMITED HEALTH INSURANCE covering ACCIDENTS and REPATRIATION to: estudiantes-internacional.bellasartes@ehu.eus

This kind of insurance is mandatory even for visitors travelling with an EU health card.

If you do not have an accident and repatriation insurance, you must complete the one offered by the University of the Basque Country/EHU (Seguro Ibili).

VISA FOR NON EU-EFTA/EEA STUDENTS

We highly recommend starting the visa application process as soon as you receive your Acceptance Letter.

Following SEPIE's (Spanish Service for the Internationalization of Education) recommendations, we would appreciate it if you would send a message to incoming.international@ehu.eus when requesting your visa appointment (only for procedures outside Spain).

LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION

Most courses are in Spanish or Basque. Some are offered in English, and some Spanish-taught courses are English-friendly because the professors speak fluent English. Even though knowing some Spanish gives you more options: without Spanish, your course choices will be more limited

The University of the Basque Country/EHU offers intensive language courses in Spanish and Basque for international students (both are free). 

TIPS TO SELECT YOUR COURSES

Students do not have their own permanent studio spaces or a dedicated workshop for individual work. Instead, you will choose your classes based on subjects. Each subject is taught in groups of 15 to 50 students. This means there are limited spots in each subject, both for exchange and regular students, and the course program is well-structured. Sometimes, the subject you want may already be full when you arrive. Don’t worry—we will do our best to help you find subjects that match your interests. You can also use the workshops (such as metalwork, woodworking, or photo sets) with a teacher’s permission. This is how things work here.

As a student, you are required to attend all classes. On the first day, your teachers will explain the course program, which may include lectures, in-class assignments, homework, or exams.

You can find the full course guide on each Bachelor’s program website. At the start of the semester, you will confirm your course and timetable choices. More information about course registration will be sent to you before you arrive.

Review the degree structure and course content. Check that your pre-selected courses are offered in the correct semester, either the first or the second. It is a good idea to have backup options in case your first choices are unavailable or there are timetable conflicts. We offer many courses, so there is no need to worry. The academic agreement you signed before arriving is provisional. When you get here, feel free to ask us any questions about your courses. You can add or change courses if both your home university coordinator and the EHU coordinator approve them during the first two weeks of your stay (approval must be sent by mail from your home institution).
