OREKA

Name of the project: OREKA – Development of a sensors integrated mobile platform for the evaluation and trainning of balance deficits
Reference: 2018222013
Funding: Health Department of the Basque Covernment
Period: 2018 – 2020
Participating Institutions: COMPMECH Research Group (UPV/EHU) and Gorliz Hospital (BIOCRUCES Bizkaia
Main researchers: Charles Pinto (COMPMECH) and Pedro Tejada (Gorliz Hospital)
Number of participating researchers: 14

This is a collaboration project between COMPMECH Reasearch Group (UPV/EHU) and Gorliz Hospital (BIOCRUCES Bizkaia). The main objective of the project is to measure the balance function of patients in an objective way in order to improve the diagnosis and rehabilitation. The device developed consists of a parallel manipulator with three degress of freedom – one vertical translation and two rotations. The patient will stand on the moving platform and be subjected to different trajectories previously defined by the medical team of the project.  The patient will be able to check in real time in a screen if the target is being reached.

The manipulator must have a motion control system able to get the measurement of the patient response by means of the reaction exerted with feet over the platform, which will be compared with that one of a wholesome person. These measures will be stored to evaluate the evolution of the patient during the rehabilitation process.
