Saioa Herrero Villalibre received her MSc in Industrrial Engineering with spezialization in Mechanical Design from Bilbao School of Engineering (University of the Basque Country, Spain) in 2009. In 2011 she obtained a Master´s degree in research in Mechanical Engineering: Manufacturing and Design. In 2016 she presented her international thesis entitled “Design methodology for MAST-type parallel manipulators based on kinematic, dynamic and stiffness criteria: theoretical and experimental application to the 2PRU-1PRS” and obtained the PhD in Mechanical Engineering with Cum Laude mention. The PhD thesis was supervised by Prof. Charles Pinto.

During her PhD, she  attended different international congresses and summer schools on robotics and mechanisms design. Besides,  she did a 3 months long internship in 2013 in the IGM research group in the RWTH University in Aachen (Germany) . She has enjoyed three different Erasmus+ grants — at Odessa National Polytechnic University in Ukraine in September 2017, in Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University in Russia in October 2019 and in University of Cincinnati in the USA in May 2023. During her Erasmus+, she taught different lessons about parallel manipulators and their applications in industry and medical field.

Currently, she is working  as Assistant Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering in Bilbao School of Engineering. Her research interests are kinematics, dynamics, parallel manipulators and robotics, especially the ones applied to medical purposes.

She is member of IFToMM Young Faculty Group and she also participates in the European Project FemPower: Gender Equality in the Clean Energy Transition.

Since March 2021 she is also the Vice Dean of International Relations at Bilbao School of Engineering.
