Material resources

The core of this Doctoral Programme in Materials Science and Technology will be developed at the Faculty of Science and Technology (FCT / ZTF) of the UPV / EHU, a Faculty that has a significant number of teaching laboratories (74). The Faculty as a whole (facilities, laboratories and adequate furniture) underwent a thorough renovation in 2003. The same happened with the research laboratories. A complete description of this faculty can be found on http://www.ehu.es/es/web/ztf-fct
With regard to the applicant departments, the specific research laboratories to develop the training and research activities are: Physical Chemistry: Macromolecular Chemistry Laboratory, New Materials and Supramolecular Spectroscopy Laboratory, Molecular Spectroscopy and Spectroscopy Laboratory.Inorganic Chemistry: Synthesis Laboratories, characterisation and study of inorganic materials (nanomaterials, polyoxometalates, biomaterials, materials for energy and multifunctional).Electricity and Electronics: Synthesis of Materials, both metals and mass alloys, and thin film, by sputtering. Materials processing: cutting and polishing alloys, thermal treatments, thin film photolithography. Characterisation of Materials: Magnetism Laboratory, Atomic force and magnetic microscopy, observation of domains due to the Kerr effect, Kerr magnetometry (MOKE), Mossbauer spectroscopy and electronics, etc. Automatic and control Laboratories, high frequency characterisation, simulation and calculation software, etc. Mineralogy and petrology: synthesis laboratories, characterisation and study of inorganic materials (nanomaterials, biomaterials, materials for energy and multifunctional). These laboratories have top level experimental scientific equipment, ensuring quality, in terms of necessary equipment for the research conducted in them. Moreover, we cannot forget other laboratories with a service nature (both internal and external) within the UPV / EHU itself, many of which are located in the actual FCT / ZTF and constitute the so-called "General Research Services" (SGIKER). These infrastructures cover the deficiencies that may arise in terms of research development, research laboratories located in the applicant university departments.
The FCT / ZTF is located in the University Campus of Leioa, Bizkaia, also home to the Central Library of the UPV / EHU, ensuring quick access to bibliographical sources. This access may be personal and direct or through consultation to literature and access to databases and electronic journals (because it has a wide range) through the corporate network. For more information on the Central Library go to http://www.ehu.es/es/web/biblioteka. In the same vein, all departments involved in training the future doctors have their own seminars where the latest issues of scientific journals associated with the corresponding scientific activity can be found.
