I am a full professor of the Department of Contemporary History. I have been previously a visiting or invited professor at Chicago University, Georgetown University and the University of Nevada, Reno in the US; El Colegio de México and Instituto Mora in México, Universidad Externado de Colombia in Colombia and Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and Santiago de Compostela in Spain.

I have conducted research on political and institutional history of the Basque provinces and my main publication regarding it was Sueño Criollo. El doble constitucionalismo en el País Vasco y Navarra (Nerea, San Sebastián, 2006). I also devoted a great part of my research to the origins of the constitutional culture in Spain and Spanish America. I published a general overview of it (Crisis Atlántica. Autonomía e independencia en la monarquía hispana, Madrid, Marcial Pons, 2006) and also specific research on some areas (Fuero Indio. la provincia India de Tlaxcala entre la monarquía imperial y la república nacional, México, El Colegio de México, 2014). Besides, I also do research on the relationship between political violence and constitucional development in the Basque Country and Spain during the Transición period (Entre tiros e historia. La constitución de la autonomía vasca, Barcelona, Galaxia Gutenberg, 2018).

I am a member of two research teams in the UPV/EHU and the University of Sevilla.
