Professor in Contemporary History since 1993 and Full Professor since 2007.

Degree in Geography and History from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) (1987) and Doctorate in History with an extraordinary prize from the same university (1993). He made stays as a pre-doctoral researcher in Paris (1989, 1990) and London (1990) and as a visiting fellow at the EUI Florence (2002).

He has taught on different university degree and master courses at the UPV/EHU. He has also taught courses at the universities of Oxford (1999, 2007), Lecce (1999), Roma Tre (2001), Medellin (2012) and Messina (2017).

His research activity focuses on the social analysis of politics realised by means of biographical and prosopographical studies of elites. In relation to this work he is a member of the Biography & Parliament consolidated research group. He has participated as director or researcher in 40 research projects and contracts. He is the author or co-author of 110 publications, including books, book chapters and articles in Brazil, Spain, the USA, France, Italy, Portugal and the UK.

This work has been recognised with 5 research sexennia (1989-2018), his receipt of the Research Prize of the Euskoiker Foundation (2007) and his appointment as a member of the Accademia Peloritana dei Pericolanti (2017).
