Starting from a formation in psychobiology, I have been involved in the neuroscience and endocannabinoid research since 2001, when I joined the laboratory of Dr. Oscar Prospéro-García, the Mexican leading group devoted to the study of the ECS. There, I did my Bachelor Thesis, and continued with my doctoral studies (2004-2009). I obtained my PhD in Biomedical Science in 2009 from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de México (UNAM, Mexico). During that period, in 2007, I had the opportunity to spend five months abroad in Liverpool, UK, in the laboratory of Professor Tim C. Kirkham, the first showing the appetite-stimulating properties of endocannabinoids. Finally, at the end of 2009, after being awarded with the Fyssen Foundation fellowship I started my postdoctoral research in the team of Giovanni Marsicano at the NeuroCentre Magendie (Bordeaux), one of the most prestigious international environments for the study of endocannabinoid functions. Then, in 2018 I obtained a tenure-track research position thanks to the IKERBASQUE research fellowship at the University of the Basque Country in Leioa, Spain. There I am developing my lines of research mainly focused in the study of the endocannabinoid system and in the identification of brain circuits controlling physiological and pathological states.
