Gorka Moreno Márquez

Curriculum vitae

Gorka Moreno Márquez (b. Irun, 1979) holds an undergraduate degree in Political Science and Public Administration (2001) and a PhD in Sociology (2007) from the UPV/EHU. He is currently a tenured lecturer at the Department of Sociology and Social Work, teaching on the undergraduate degree in Sociology. He has broad experience in teaching at postgraduate level at the UPV/EHU and other universities in Spain and Latin America. From 2011 to 2019 he was Director of Ikuspegi, the Basque Immigration Observatory, where he continues to work as a researcher. He is also a member of the Partehartuz consolidated research group, which is recognised by the Basque Government. In 2007 he won the Basque Government's Premio Realidad Social Vasca [Basque Social Reality Award]. He has co-directed two PhD theses. He has taken part in over 70 research projects and contracts, in around half of which he has been the lead researcher. Most of these contracts have been with public administrations. He has published 10 complete books and 48 book chapters, has been the editor or coordinator of 5 collective books and has published teaching material in Basque for two subjects. He has also had 14 papers published in scientific journals included in JCR or Scopus. He is currently a member of the Editorial Board of the journal Papers de Sociología and works as a reviewer on several academic journals. He is also Vice President of the Basque Association of Sociology and Political Science. He is a frequent guest speaker at international congresses and conferences. In 2015 he was an adviser to the Deputy Ministry for Human Mobility in Ecuador. He has worked and continues to work assiduously as a specialist social analyst on radio and TV shows, and has written articles for the magazine Argia.
