Welcome to the website of the Department of Mathematics.

The Department of Mathematics is located at the Faculty of Science and Technology at the Leioa campus and the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Vitoria‑Gasteiz campus. Its activity focuses on university teaching and research in the different areas of mathematical knowledge, encompassing both theoretical work and its applications.

The department is organised into five areas of knowledge: algebra, mathematical analysis, geometry and topology, applied mathematics, and statistics and operations research. Through these areas, teaching, research and academic management activities are carried out in a coordinated manner.

With regard to teaching, the department delivers most of the courses in the Degree in Mathematics and is responsible for general mathematics courses in several degrees within the Faculty of Science and Technology and the Faculty of Pharmacy. In addition, it participates in the teaching of master’s programmes and provides occasional teaching in other university degrees.

Alongside teaching and research, some members of the department, as a complement to their main academic duties, are involved in mathematical outreach activities, aimed at disseminating the discipline and bringing it closer to a wider audience.
